What about Pterobyte?
PTEROBYTE, Jim Baldwin, 6th in the PHRF A3 fleet at Screwpile. Pterobyte won a tie breaker in their battle with Priority One (Ron Spicuzza) in the overall standings by virtue of having finished 2nd in the second race of the regatta. SBRNYCU just plain missed Pterobyte when summarizing final regatta standings in Thursday’s issue. Make no mistake, they were there. And, they raced tough in a very tough fleet.

Jim and crew had their work cut out for them in the PHRF A3 fleet, with a lot of Olsons and Frers and the always dangerous MORC killer, “Remedy” in their class. And huge congrats for their finishing in the top half of their fleet on their first attempt at Screwpile. Screwpile is a “Bring Your A-Game Only” event. (see front page 7.26.09 story).

Major props to Jim and crew for coming up from Deltaville to do the event. Like an idiot I didn’t get a chance to catch up with Jim, even though I stumbled around the dock one evening, post-race, trying to find “Pterobyte,” and missed his phone call at the party because the band was too loud. Anyway, that’s my excuse.

WHAT’S YOURS FOR NOT DOING SCREWPILE?

Progress on Evelyn 32-2 Pterobyte

May 6th, 2009 by Jim Baldwin | No Comments | Filed in Renovation Log

I have not posted in some time.  The crew and I have been making great progress however.  I have been taking pictures along the way. To-date we have:

  • Finished the keel
  • Finished the non skin
  • Finished painting the interior
  • Fabricated new hatch board rails, slides and hand rails
  • Fabricated and installed new windows

We should have the boat in the water in a few weeks.  Stay tuned for the date and the unveiling party… Till then I am holding the pictures … :)

Evelyn 32-2 getting Painted

March 24th, 2009 by Jim Baldwin | No Comments | Filed in Renovation Log

Well we have turned the corner…

Pterobyte saw it’s first coat of paint.  It has becomethe grey ghost.  Of course that means the first coat of paint is primer but at least it is on it’s way to being beautiful….. again…!

This is with the Interlux Pre-Kote primer.

Evelyn 32 Keel Templates

February 16th, 2009 by Jim Baldwin | No Comments | Filed in Renovation Log

I cut out the keel templates from Computer Keels. I thought we would be on the second blue line, 35%. I cut the first one, lowest station, and it didn’t fit right. The trailer edge didn’t come into ceenter line. I cut station two and had the same problem. So I recut section 2 to the next deeper line, 40%, and it fit like a charm so I cut all three that way. It appears they all fit pretty will and only need some trim.

The port side bulge we were worried about seems to be taken care of with the new keel box repair and we won’t have to grind lead.
