20-30kts of wind tries the crew and sails of Pterobyte
October 20th, 2008 by Jim Baldwin | No Comments | Filed in FBYC Fall SeriesNot having sailed this boat over 18kts of wind we were not sure what to expect from it. The boat and hardware did fantastic. I had selected our 4th string, yes we have four, main. I did this in case we had any issues, the damage would be limited to 4th string sails and or delivery sails. As it turned out that was the only damage and the age and lack of use and prep of the sale did us in for both races.
The second full batten on the main popped out it’s pocket and forward of the mast. I suppose we could have done a sail change back to the 2nd string main, which we had on board just in case. With crew we had, some green on the outside, and the dark windy weather we opted for shelter and cleared the batten. That made us miss both races for the day.
On the good side, the boat did fantastically well in the wind and waves. It was HUGE confidence builder in the boat. Thanks crew for doing such a great job!
