Winter Projects
December 26th, 2008 by Jim Baldwin | No Comments | Filed in Renovation LogMove the boat into a warehouse. It is a great spot, heated, with a mezzanine. the mezzanine allows me to walk right off the floor onto the transom of the boat.
There is a lot to do this winter:
- Re seat ALL the deck hardware
- Replace all the teak w/ Star Board
- Repair hatch
- Build instrument bridge on hatch
- Redo the topside, new awl grip and paint
- Blast the bottom and re fair it
- Re seat the keel
The work goes on
October 19th, 2008 by Jim Baldwin | No Comments | Filed in Renovation LogI was putting ss splice eyes in the back stay Dyneema when I found the primary, first, block on the backs stay adjuster looked a little odd. The top becket was malformed. It took a bit to get it apart and it had pulled the all the way out of the plastic section of the block.
The block that ws used was rated with a working load of about 500#. Ouch… The next block down was rated at about 900#, I may have swapped these two when I installed but still. I replace the primary with:

This has a 2000# working load..
Is that enough? I am not sure, it still sounds light.

September 9th, 2008 by admin | No Comments | Filed in Renovation LogI acquired this boat quit by accident. I was looking for a fast boat to have some fun with and race and hopefully travel. The travel part put me in J80, M30 maybe a few more. I ran across this one up in Ohio and many things clicked and came together. It was on a trailer. It has new sails, it looked fairly well maintained. It was a early UDLB made by Bob Evelyn.  I have a lot of time in an Evelyn 42. So there you go I fell for it:
